Wonder Woman: Sacrifice – A Drunk History Breakdown with Beers & Bad Decisions | Comics & Brews Ep. 27
Welcome back, nerds, beer lovers, and comic book obsessives! This week on Comics & Brews, we finally drop the long-anticipated, beer-fueled breakdown of Wonder Woman: Sacrifice — and let us just say, it’s got everything: mind control, invisible planes, hangry villains, poetic villain monologues, photobooths, and a wild amount of emotional damage.
If you’ve been waiting for us to tackle Volume 2 of the Dawn of DC Wonder Woman run (Issues #7–10)—your time has come. We’re talking drunk comic book history at its finest. This one has been months in the making so shoutout to my boy Logan for letting us borrow his TPB for many months to get this done.
Whether you’re a die-hard Diana fan, a beer geek looking for your next favorite IPA, or just stumbled into this chaos because of a strong Google search game (we see you, SEO gods), welcome to the madness.
🦸♀️ What’s in This Episode?
In Episode 27, hosts TazAlGhul and Just Abby crack open some next-level brews and unravel the next arc in Wonder Woman’s journey—one that’s lighter, darker, funnier, weirder, and somehow even more intense than the last.
Here’s a taste (pun absolutely intended) of what’s inside:
- Wonder Woman and Superman shopping for Batman’s birthday gift at a mall literally in space
- The funniest coffee order in comic book history ☕
- Evil Sovereign cult leaders using religion as mind control 🤯
- Wonder Woman cooking dinner like a ‘50s housewife… under psychological manipulation 😬
- Cheetah vs. Wonder Woman in a hangry beach battle royale 🍖🩸
- Wonder Girls + invisible plane = flying chaos 💨
- A surprisingly emotional campfire confession scene (yes, Just Abyy may have cried a little)
This episode is pure fire—emotionally, narratively, and comically. We go deep into the symbolism, story, satire, and soul of this arc with just the right amount of IPA-induced insight. And yes … Superman’s coffee order is absolutely ridiculous as is the entire issue #7 to me since it came off the rails of a battle between Wonder Woman and& Grail. BUT, what comes after that is absolutely supreme. Here’s a lil sneak peak of some of the spreads from Issues 7-10

🍻 Beers of the Episode: Nerdy. Boozy. Glorious.
At Comics & Brews, it’s not just about the comics—it’s about the perfect pairing of story and sip. And this week, the lineup is legendary:
🧃 You See Us As You Want to See Us
A powerhouse 9.5% Triple New England Hazy IPA from Offscript Brewing in collaboration with Lyric Brewing. It’s juicy, punchy, and dangerously smooth—just like Diana herself. Most def gave this bad boy a 4.75. Absolutely crushable triple that could be quite dangerous since it’s ripping some extreme ABV. Does Offscript make one just decent beer? Absolutely not. They only make pure FIRE.
🍹 Limonada Rosada
A tart, tropical fruited sour from Tripping Animals. It’s citrusy, funky, and refreshing, clocking in at a very solid 3.75/5 on the NerdBeer Scale™ as well as the Untappd one. Cha feel?
Our beer reviews are as unfiltered as our storytelling, and every episode pairs a fresh pour with some comic chaos. It’s what makes Comics & Brews your new favorite nerd + beer podcast. Here’s a few shots of the beers themselves.
We of course also made a pre-episode trip to Lone Tree Brewing Co as almost always so figured we’d drop those episode honorable mentions in here too since they were quite delightful. A new dragonfruit sour called “Heart of the Dragon” and a lager that was dangerously crushable and one of the best I’ve had there. Sadly can’t remember what the hell it was call so that’s my B. But if you’re in the area most def try it!

🤯 Comic Book Themes We Unpack (While off a Solid Lone TreeBuzz)
- The weaponization of faith & how villains use ideology to manipulate
- Feminist resistance in the face of oppressive male-dominated systems
- Why Cheetah might be Diana’s most complex frenemy
- The emotional toll of isolation and what makes a hero unbreakable
- How humor and absurdity can be used to subvert trauma in storytelling
- And yes… why Superman gets caramel drizzle in his latte
🥇 Why This Episode Deserves a Spot in Comic Book History
Wonder Woman: Sacrifice isn’t just a story—it’s a psychological thriller disguised as a superhero comic, and Tom King somehow fits more raw emotion into four issues than most runs do in 40. Pair that with the raw chaos of Comics & Brews, and you’ve got a podcast episode that feels more like an experience.
This one hits all the right notes: humor, heartbreak, social commentary, and beer-fueled debate. It’s a must-listen for comic fans, female readers, beer nerds, and those who love some good ol fashioned storytelling.
