The filthy slug from a galaxy far far away …
For this episode we gave you a new character and a somewhat new co-host! We had the return of none other than Seamus McGilliguffy for the Drunk History of Jabba the Hutt!! Jabba the Hutt stands as one of the most infamous figures in the Star Wars universe—a symbol of crime, power, and excess. His story intertwines with major events and characters, leaving a lasting impact on the galaxy far, far away. Watch the newest episode of Comics & Brews below … but if you just want some quick cliff-notes before you watch be sure to keep on scrolling and you’ll get the less drunk variation of this filthy Star Wars animal. CHEERS!
Early Life and Rise to Power
Born into the influential Desilijic clan, Jabba Desilijic Tiure quickly ascended the ranks of the criminal underworld. By 200 BBY, he had established himself as a formidable crime lord on Tatooine, a desert planet that became the center of his operations. From his palace, a repurposed monastery originally built by the B’omarr Order—monks who believed in detaching themselves from their physical forms—Jabba orchestrated a vast network of illicit activities.
The Criminal Empire
Jabba’s empire was multifaceted:
Smuggling Operations: He controlled numerous smuggling routes, dealing in contraband such as the highly addictive spice, akin to narcotics in our world.
Slave Trade: Jabba was notorious for trafficking beings across the galaxy, often using them for entertainment or labor within his palace.
Bounty Hunting Contracts: He employed notorious bounty hunters, including Boba Fett, to enforce his will and eliminate threats.
Notable Relationships
- Han Solo: A smuggler who became indebted to Jabba after dumping a shipment of spice to evade Imperial forces. This debt led to a significant bounty on Han’s head, culminating in his capture and display in carbonite within Jabba’s palace. StarWars.com
- Leia Organa: In a daring mission to rescue Han, Leia infiltrated Jabba’s palace disguised as the bounty hunter Boushh. Her capture led to the iconic scene where she was enslaved by Jabba, only to later strangle him with the very chain that bound her. StarWars.com
Downfall and Death
Jabba’s overconfidence proved to be his undoing. Underestimating Leia and her allies, he failed to anticipate their resolve.Leia’s act of strangling Jabba aboard his sail barge marked the end of his reign, leading to a power vacuum in the criminal underworld.
Legacy
Jabba’s death had ripple effects throughout the galaxy:
- Criminal Underworld: His demise led to shifts in power dynamics, with various factions vying for control over his former territories.
- Cultural Impact: Jabba became a symbol of unchecked greed and corruption, serving as a cautionary tale within the Star Wars narrative.
His son, Rotta the Hutt, introduced during the Clone Wars, hinted at the continuation of the Hutt legacy. Recent reports suggest Rotta’s return in upcoming Star Wars narratives, indicating the enduring influence of the Hutt clan.
Jabba the Hutt’s story is a testament to the complexities of power and the inevitable consequences of hubris. His legacy continues to be explored, reflecting the multifaceted nature of the Star Wars universe. Although his legacy will go on I think it’s safe to say he’s one sick puppy. These cliff notes of his history don’t do the Drunk History we gave it justice so be sure to give it a watch! Keep reading below for some more freebies too!

Beers of the Episode
Sweet mahogony did Seamus and have some incredible beers for episode #22. It only felt right in preparation for one of the filthiest characters we’ve done yet. We warmed it up at our usual Thursday aka Sirsday spot at Lone Tree Brewing in Parker, CO. On this fine day I believe I had myself a Blueberry Bliss, Blueberry Blonde and the Sidespin IPA. Could have been a few more on top of that but I think we kept it tame since we knew we were about to send it later in the night. If you haven’t paid Lone Tree Brewing a visit be sure to do so either in Lone Tree, CO or Parker, CO. It’s a glorious time. However, below are the bevies we buried during the episode …
Off Script Brewing: Obviously Your Not a Golfer – We got this glorious beverage delivered to us from Off Script themselves. Thank you for reaching out to us on Instagram letting us know the new glorious Hazy Gold was coming! Such a damn treat and was so stoked to get to find my first brew from them which they brew in their Garage somewhere in the lands of Thornton, Colorado. This New England Double IPA is made with so much Nelson and Nelson Cryo that Walter said it’s “over the line”
(I Rated it a 4.75) It’s Untappd overall rating is (4.59)
Marble Fox Brewing: Throwing Pedals – This DIPA showcases a vibrant mix of Citra, Mosaic, Galaxy, and Nelson Sauvin hops, delivering an explosive bouquet of flavor. Think orange push-pop colliding with mango nectar, finishing with a layer of juicy ripe peach rings. Every sip is lush and balanced, blending a soft malt canvas with layers of bright, tropical intensity. I’ve never actually been to this brewery before but every beer from there has been right around 4.0 or higher. I think 4.0 has been on the lower side for all the ones I’ve tried. Seamus flew this beauty in from Nashville and went to the brewery and said the same … the beers there SLAP.
(I Rated it a 4.75) It’s Untappd overall rating is (4.21)
Bissell Brothers Brewing Co- Nothing Gold – Our 2nd DIPA, using Ekuanot, Citra, Sultana and Amarillo hops. This beer is a celebration of impermanence and embracing the beauty of the passing moment. Enjoy with friends and loved ones, being content and present when you do. This could have only been rated a 4.0 because we followed up the Throwing Pedals with this guy. Still such a damn good double IPA. I’d def recommend it. I got it within my Tavour crate so if any of you are subscribed you might be able to find it on there again one day.
(We rated it a 4.0) It’s Untappd Overall Rating is (4.32)
Treehouse Brewing Co- Ultimate Haze – Every treehouse beer is an absolute heater. This one sitting at a 4.55 might actually be one of the highest rated IPAs that we’ve had on the show. So silky and smooth I tell yuh! Quite hard to get in Colorado but if you’re elsewhere and you see it, be sure to try it! The Ultimate Haze is a celebration of all the Tree House beers that came before it. We pride ourselves on crafting soft, well-rounded beers that burst with hop character and are perfectly balanced by our hallmark velvety mouthfeel. Jam-packed with rich hop flavor, Ultimate Haze is a reflection of brewing and hop-sourcing efforts that stretch the better part of a decade. Here, you will experience overripe peach nectar, pulpy orange juice, and the most delectable fruit cocktail you’ve ever tasted, all harmoniously intertwined. It is a singular flavor experience. Ultimate Haze encapsulates an eternal, striving energy to make the best beer possible. We hope this can will brighten your day.
(We rated it a 4.75) It’s Untappd Overall Rating is (4.55)
